Smith examines the equine world of posture and stance with an informed level of observation. By capturing the specific figures relationship with gravity he can afford an economy of detail to fulfill each composition. Smith captures the quality of daily equine life as though the scenes are memoirs intended for the horses themselves.
Steve Smith was born (1962) and raised in Bozeman, Montana. He is a contemplative observer of architecture, horses, landscapes and airports. An accomplished oil painter, Smith uses his methods to explore a contemplative examination of his subject matter. His work shares direct common references through these compositions with his audience as well as making formal statements about the scenes and activities found in his work. Smith captures solitary parts of daily events as tangible objects in themselves. These compositions become moments of pure static posture, isolated from what is usually part of a highly orchestrated series of events. Smith makes these views valuable through the transient nature of observation. Steve Smith has paintings in numerous collections in the western U.S. He is currently represented by ARTCHAUCER artgallery and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
