This screen shot of the Artch Auctions page at invaluable shows work available outside of an auction.  Artch Auctions can offer consigned work here that's available any time, regardless of auctions.  This new feature from invaluable is new and Artch Auctions is one of a group of pilot galleries and auction houses to be included in their launch scheduled for March 7, 2016.  This is the third large platform launch ARTCHAUCER Art Gallery has been a part of.  The first being the Affordable Art Fair Seattle inaugural show and the second being the Amazon Fine Art launch.

We're accepting applications for consignments and, as always, seeking collectors to view and participate with invaluable's platform reach.

What’s one piece of advice that every art collector, from budding to seasoned, should know?

CR: Just remember to collect what you love. Doing so will help ensure that you enjoy it for a long time. Ignore trends, unless they speak to you personally. Art collecting is not a competition, and it’s no use to compare your collection to someone else’s. Each collection should be reflective of you as a person and your experiences.

Join Oh Suzanna’s Gallery at the Emerson in Bozeman, Montana on February 14, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00  PM for an opening reception for paintings by Chaucer Silverson.  Chaucer is a Bozeman painter whose work focuses on colorful atmospheric portrayals and gestural abstractions.  This show will offer a glimpse into studio works used in the development of his artistic concepts.

" This group of work represents work I’ve done for about 4 years.  It begins with the Insight series which started as multiple layers of blue watercolor fields that intend to create an atmospheric situation to offer viewers a moment of insight.  These pieces developed into color and pattern work in acrylic.  After working on these time consuming compositions a great need arose to prepare panels with a solid field of color, load up a brush, and complete a composition in a gesture, with a limited number of brush strokes.  These gestures represent a notion as it crosses your mind.  They’re conceived out of whatever I was thinking at the time.  They relate nicely to the Zen Circles I’ve painted for years, which are also made in a single brush stroke. 

My intention for the reduction of subject matter is to capture and present the significance of what remains. The work assumes, and depends on some essential content on the part of the viewer, and offers a measure of interpretation to be successful."

Chaucer Silverson's artwork will be displayed in Miami in one of the booths in the SCOPE Art Fair. It will be displayed in rotation on several HD plasma screens from December 3rd-8th.  The SCOPE Art Fair overlaps with Art Basel Miami,  the favorite winter meeting place for the international art world. At the nexus of North America and Latin America, the Art Basel show presents premier artwork from across the globe. Over 250 of the world's leading galleries participate, drawing over 50,000 visitors each year.

One year ago ARTCHAUCER artgallery attended the first edition of the Affordable Art Fair in Seattle.  As the Seattleite promotes this year's AAF Seattle they used an image from the ARTCHAUCER booth to show audiences where they can find high quality contemporary art.  Since the first AAF Seattle show we've welcomed 4 excellent artists to the collection and look forward to adding a few more in the next few months.  Hopefully we'll make it back to the AFF Seattle in 2014. ]]><![CDATA[Online Art Sales]]>Wed, 02 Oct 2013 22:46:32 GMThttps://www.artchaucer.com/blog/online-art-salesMost galleries that survived the great recession have made their way by selling work with a telephone, email, and the internet.  In 2011, 3% of fine art sales transactions took place through the internet.  In 2012 this number jumped to 13%.  Results for 2013 aren't in yet and if they're good you may not hear about it.  An astute observer may notice it but competitive advantage will keep, and has kept, most dealers mouths closed.  As the art buyers habits change the sellers will surely follow.

In an age when you can get nearly anything the internet, legal or illicit, the world of art has remained a hold out for a long time.  The art openings, the art shows, art fairs, workshops, and all the associated art happenings that involve human interaction will continue as long as there are people who want to go.  It's been difficult for many people to let go of.  Conversations about art, collections, and opinions in homes, institutional collections, and internet forums will continue as well.  People and their opinions will stick around.  There's no doubt about that.  This is a good sign.  It shows that art has a function in the world.

Recent press is showing signs of easing on the old ways of selling art.  The following two quotes are from an article published in the New York Times entitled "Art Collections a Click Away":

"When Judy DeFord, a retired high school art teacher in Seattle, received an e-mail from Catherine Person Gallery recently, she saw a familiar name on its list of artists. It was a former student of hers, Allyce Wood. “I thought, ‘Great!,’ and I decided to make a purchase,” Ms. DeFord said.

But instead of making the 10-minute trip to the gallery, she logged onto Amazon Art, a fine-arts and collectibles category that Amazon introduced on Aug. 6. She clicked on images by Ms. Wood, selected a pen-and-ink drawing of an unearthed plant root titled “Excavated” and, with a few clicks of the mouse, bought it for $160.

“I bought it through Amazon because it was quick and easy,” she said."

"The online activity reflects a shift in consumer behavior. Increasingly, buyers have shown a willingness to select art online and pay for it online, too, without ever seeing the original work."

Just like online dating, people feel confident in the information they're getting off the internet and the level of trust is only growing.  It wasn't 10 years ago that most people thought twice about putting a credit card number through a website out of fear that they would have their identity and their money stolen.
